Drawing Art Course 1 (DA1) Task 1

Welcome to our drawing session. This is mainly for beginners, but also for those a bit more advanced as warm up exercises. The Drawing Art Course 1 (DA1) is an opportunity to develop your drawing skills with the focus on shading and design.

What you need:

Basic:

  • HB Drawing pencil

  • A4 paper (any colour)

  • Colouring pencils

Advanced:​

  • A set of drawing pencils (HB, 2B, 4B, 6B)

  • Water soluble water colouring pencils

  • An art journal with quality paper (A4 or A3)

TASK 1: Understand shading
NOTE:
Remember an example is just what it is, an "EXAMPLE". You may want to do it in your own way.

Starter: Use the examples to practice your shading techniques with a drawing pencil.​
Develop: Use the example to practice your shading techniques. You may want to use your drawing pencil as well as explore using colouring pencils.​

Extend: Use the example to practice your shading techniques. You may want to use a range of drawing pencils as well as explore using water soluble colouring pencils.​

Overlapping shapes: Use a shape to draw around. Let them overlap and add a range of shading. Try it with pencil first, then with colouring pencils and then a combination of both. What about a biro?

Overlapping shades: Fill your page with shapes, lines or cut out letters. Maybe your name? Let them overlap and add a range of shading. Use a combination of pencil and colouring pencils.
